Privacy & Cookie Policy

Who I am
JBO (Jewish Business Owners) is run personally by me, Rotem Golan, in Melbourne, Australia. This policy explains what personal information I collect through this website and the JBO directory, why, and what you can do about it. I handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What I collect
- Account details: your name and email address when you sign up or sign in (with Google, an email link, or a password).
- Your directory profile: what you choose to add, such as your photo, business name, industry, what you do, what you are looking for, location and social links.
- Forms and events: answers you give in community surveys, event registrations and feedback forms, which can include your phone number and website.
- Your private tools: notes and network maps you create inside the directory. These are visible only to you.
- How the site is used: pages visited, clicks, device and browser type, and approximate location, collected through the analytics tools described under Cookies below. I also count views and clicks on each member's directory card so I can send that member a weekly summary.
Why I use it
- To run the directory and show your profile to other members
- To make introductions and matches between members
- To send you community updates, event details and your weekly profile activity summary
- To understand what is working on the site and improve it
- To keep the community safe, including removing accounts that break the Terms
I don't sell your personal information, and I don't use it for third-party advertising.
Who can see it
Other signed-in members can see your directory profile. Beyond that, your information is handled by the services that keep JBO running:
- Supabase, which stores the directory database and sign-ins (hosted in Sydney, Australia)
- Vercel, which hosts the website
- Google, for Google sign-in and Google Analytics
- Microsoft Clarity, for usage analytics
- Email and automation tools I use to send community emails
Some of these providers may process data outside Australia, including in the United States. I only use providers with established privacy and security practices. I may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. This site uses two kinds:
- Essential cookies keep you signed in to the directory (set by Supabase). The site can't work properly without them, so they are always on.
- Analytics cookies from Google Analytics (
_ga) and Microsoft Clarity (_clck,_clsk) help me understand how people use the site. Clarity records interactions such as clicks and scrolling to show where pages are confusing. I also use Vercel Web Analytics, which does not use cookies.
The site also uses your browser's local storage to remember small preferences, such as your cookie choice. You can decline analytics cookies at any time, and you can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
How long I keep it
I keep your account and profile while you are a member. If you ask me to delete your account, I remove your profile and personal details, except anything I need to keep by law. Analytics data is kept according to each provider's standard retention settings.
Keeping it safe
I take reasonable steps to protect your information, including access controls on the database and encrypted connections. No online system is completely secure, but if a breach is likely to cause you serious harm, I will tell you and report it as the law requires.
Your choices and rights
- You can see and edit your profile in the directory at any time.
- You can ask me for a copy of the personal information I hold about you, or ask me to correct it.
- You can ask me to delete your account and data.
- You can unsubscribe from community emails using the link in the email, or by asking me.
Email me at rotemgol96@gmail.com and I'll respond within 30 days, usually much sooner.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how I handle your information, please email me first so I can fix it. If you are not satisfied with my response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Age
JBO is for business owners and professionals aged 18 and over.
Changes to this policy
If I change this policy in a meaningful way, I will update the date above and let members know by email.
